I 2004 I woke up one night with the idea that I could make a living as an underwater photographer. I have no idea where the idea came from but it has haunted me ever since.I had owned cameras since leaving home nearly 30 years prior but wasn't even a serious happy snapper.
Soon after that fateful night I spend a significant amount of money on a Nikon D70 digital SLR and Ikelite housing and stobes and some lenses and all of the associated must haves. I jumped in the water with a scuba tank on my back and found that my new profession was going to take a while to come good. Taking professional grade photographs is hard enough but when you try and do it underwater there is an expodential level of difficulty. I soon realised that I needed to learn to take photos before I could take photos underwater.
In February 2005 I joined a couple of online photography forums and starting having independant 'experts' critic my work, what a sobering experience....... I time I started to get better reviews and eventually plucked up the courage to join a camera club in 2007. The scariest part about that was the thought of having to face the people who were criticing my work. Luckily for me the club judges were much less agressive than some of their web counterparts.
Since 2008, I have been entering photographic competitions and have had success at the local, national and international level.
Anyway, I have loaded a few galleries of my more recent work up for all to see.
